Mother's Day Gift 2 - Date Night Bag

Image
After making the first one I knew I would make more of these as gifts.  Even though I still have not "perfected" it I love both versions so far.  I will probably make 3 to 6 of these to give as gifts. Thinking about the size purse women carrying and considering how "small" this purse is I figured it would be a good "date" night bag.  It's just big enough to carry all the essentials. How I Did It  What is different about this one is I added the piping and I have to admit the piping sets it apart.  The other thing is I added a little top stitching to the flap since the fabric had a diamond pattern on it. To create the piping I used 3/16" cotton piping and cut 2" bias strips to cover it.  I paid a tremendous about of money for extra serger feet so I decided to use my cording foot and serger to close the piping cover. I won't go into much detail on this one since the information is already in the April 22 post except to say this pr

Mother's Day Gift

My word for me today comes from Romans 8:28 which says "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Lately I haven't had much joy in my sewing and I have been completely distracted and can't seem to finish projects.  The quality of my sewing has suffered also. Today I finally finished something even though there are flaws - I'll take it.  It is a welcomed small "pick me up". How I Did It What can I say - another Sew4Home project.  I love this site.  Anyway I saw this project and thought it would make a perfect mother's day gift.  My mom died decades ago but there are a few women that I like to give gifts to occasionally. This project is a small quilted purse that is pretty simple to make.  There were a couple of things I did differently and I will explain them below. My fabric came from the home decoration section in Joann's Fabrics.   Both pieces are a

Sewing Machine Cover Number 3

My word for me today comes from Matthew 6:25, 27, 34-35.   Therefore I tell you, do not worry  about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?   Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life ?    But seek first his kingdom  and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.   Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.   This is part 3 of a previous days post and the cover is for a Brother 1034 serger.  As I shared in the other 2 posts, I made sewing machine covers for several machines sold on behalf of a friend. This cover was fairly easy since I had worked out all the issues in the other 2 machine covers even though this was a serger. How I Did It The fabric I used was from my stash (yea I am making room for more fabric).  I believe I purchased this fabric from Hobby Lobb
