Recycled Towels

Image
Today it is rainy and cold - a perfect day to stay in my pajamas and be lazy.  I thought about sewing but I just never made it to my sewing room. I am super cheap when it comes to buying towels and wash clothes because I think they are ridiculously expensive.  I have been needing wash clothes for years now but just could not bring myself to buy any. I saw this idea but I don't remember where.  I thought it was from one of the project sites I use but I could not find it when I went searching for it.  Anyway a saw it last week and wondered why it never occurred to me to do this earlier. I had some old towels that I no long used because I didn't have matching wash clothes to go with them.  The three towels were still soft and in good condition so I decided to recycle them and make some much needed wash clothes. New Wash Cloth How I did It With the first towel I used an existing wash cloth as a template to cut out the new ones.  I used my serger to finish the ed

A Custom Fit Pattern That Does Not Fit

I can't find the words to explain how I feel.  There were problems, costly problems with my sewing today. I ordered a custom fit pattern that does not fit. I ordered a custom fit pattern that does not look like the illustration (back view). I used this pattern on some really expensive fabric I did not do a muslin or any fit checks until it was too late. I did not lay out the pattern properly for the fabric design. I have a beautiful dress that does not fit. Before I laid out my dress I knew I wanted to pay special attention to the fabric so I could match the print at the seams.  I cut the front and made note of where I started on the design.

This week during the week I cut out and completed sewing a blouse.  I typically sew on the weekend so this was a major feat. Sewing during the week presents several problems - I don't want to stop and I up staying up way too late.  Because I've stayed up too late I am a zombie during the day hours.  One day I will learn to sew for 1 or 2 hours and then stop. Anyway I have a new top now hanging in my closet.  It's Lekala 4619  and it was fairly simple to sew. My Version of Lekala 4619 Lekala 4619 How I Did It Everything came from my stash except the buttons - ya.  I have to admit it is getting really hard to go to a fabric store and not buy fabric.  This project took about 2 1/2 yds of fabric.   I entered my measurements, downloaded my pattern, and taped it together.  It's kind of funny because I used to hate taping the pattern together.  Now it has tuned into great anticipation - I can't wait to get it put together so I can cut it out and
