Go Big or Go Home

Image
I have been on a quest to find loose fitting, easy to sew, stylish patterns and I found Stylearc's Portsea Luxe Sweat .  I really love the hi/low hemline and how roomy it is.  I still have not learned to balance between loose and too big.   How I Did It When I tried this shirt on during the construction process I loved how roomy it was and that is where I got lost and forgot the balance.  I should have gone down one size because my top has past roomy, it's just too dang big. Will I fix - nope.  Will I wear it - absolutely.  Although it is too big I don't have to fiddle with it too much. Fabric I purchase fabric specifically for this pattern.  When I saw the giant polka dots I had to have it and I love it.  The fabric is a giant polka dot jersey french terry from Style Maker Fabrics . Pattern Adjustments I shortened it 3". Some Construction/Finished Pictures I added knit stay tape around the neck and shoulder edges but neglected to put some on the ...

I Am Woman

There is nothing like a well fitted pencil skirt that just makes you feel good, look good, and know that you are WOMAN! Stylearc's Halle Stretch Skirt does just that.  When I saw this skirt I knew I had to have it and I found the perfect fabric for it. How I Did It I really loved the angled front of this skirt and I knew it would look good in the right fabric.  I have it paired with Stylearc's Portsea Luxe Sweat . Fabric I did buy new fabric from Style Maker Fabrics.  I purchased a plaid floral black/plum ponte knit for this skirt.  It was a heavier ponte which was perfect for this skirt. Pattern Modifications I shortened the skirt 3".  I was a little nervous when making this adjustment because of the angled front but it worked out just fine. I raised the back rise 1".  Normally I lower the front rise 1" but I chickened out on this one because I was nervous how it would affect the front. Some Construction Steps/Final Pictures I have to say I have never don...

Megan Nielsen Opal Curve -View B

Image
I was asked to be a tester for this pattern (ya) and for the second round of testing I decided to make view B.  Of the two I like view A the best because it gives me the illusion of a waistline, however, I still love view B. How I Did It According to the measurements I cut a size 24.  This was a big mistake and quite interesting since on view A I cut a 22 at the waist and graded up to a 24 at the hip.  I think I thought it's an elastic waist so it won't make a difference -wrong! Once I completed them and tried them on I realized they were way too big and they did not look good.  This pattern has a fair amount of ease in it and I quickly realized I needed to go down a size. In the pictures below you can see the excess fabric in the front and the pull lines in the back. Size 24 - Too Big Size 24 - Too Big Normally I would give them away or trash them, however, I did something I normally don't do - I deconstructed, cut down to size 22, and reconstructed.  OMG...
