Tilly And The Buttons Make It Simple Quick Book Review

I recently purchased and finally received the " Make It Simple " Book by Tilly And The Buttons. I have 2 of her other books I bought from a brick and mortar store.  What drew me to her books in the initially was the calming, pleasing color aesthetic.  What made me want to come back for this new one was 3 things. The expanded size range (what I affectionately call the "big girl" size)  The instructions and helpful tips that I knew would be there (based on her other books) The patterns Lately I am finding myself wanting immediate sewing satisfaction (aka simple patterns) and this book did not disappoint.  The patterns have a simple elegance and are quick and easy to sew.  She gives you the basic pattern but also have a "Make It Your Own" section to kick it up a notch.  The patterns that I have sewn have a generous amount of wearing ease so you don't have to spend time making a lot of adjustments.  The only adjustments I had to make were shorten

Tilly And The Buttons - Suki Dress

Image
This is my 4th and final (for now) make from Make It Simple by Tilly And The Buttons. Suki Dress How I  Did It The fabric is a beautiful light weight embroidered denim purchased for this project.  I really tried to walk away from this fabric, but all the bright colors pulled me in and would not let me go. I also purchased a piece of linen to make the belt. This was a 1 piece pattern where you needed to cut the front neckline lower.  I know I am too clumsy so I made a second copy of it and use it as the front of the dress and use the original as the back of the dress.  I used the "Make It Your Own" sections to eliminate the long sleeves and add the belt. Below are construction pictures and additional completed photos styled with the Bertha Cardigan. No Belt Conclusion I really love this dress - it has a simple elegance.  It is no fuss - you slip it over your head. What's Next StyleArc leggins and light weight hoody.

This is my third make from Make It Simple by Tilly And The Buttons. Bertha Cardigan How I Did It This cardigan was made with a fabric called Modal purchased for this project.  Easy peezy project that comes together rather quickly.  Below are some construction pictures a couple more completed pictures. Conclusion I really loved how quickly this came together, but I am not sure I like it on me.  This will have to grow on me or I will need to find it a new home. Tilly And The Buttons - Safiya Trousers

This is my second make from Make It Simple by Tilly And The Buttons. Safiya Trousers How I Did It Both pairs of pants are a linen blend purchased for this project.  It doesn't get any easier than this 3 pieces for a pants pattern.  Below are construction pictures and a couple more pictures styled with the Tabitha T-Shirt .  I added 1" to the back rise (forgot to do it on the mustard colored ones) and eliminated the cropped pant by not shortening the length my normal 3".  I'll will lengthen them 1" when I make them again.  I used the "Make It Your Own" section to add the pockets. Conclusion It doesn't get any easier than a 3 piece pants pattern.  These pants are so comfortable.  Rather than the cropped leg I chose not to shorten my normal 3" which made them regular length. Tilly And The Buttons - Tabitha T-Shirt

This was my first make from Make It Simple by Tilly And The Buttons. Tabitha T-Shirt How I Did It The whole point of having a fabric stash is to always have fabric available when you want to sew.  Why is it when I get ready to sew none of the fabric I have is ever suitable for my sewing project? Needless to say this is new fabric, but in my defense I was stocking up for the city shut down I knew was coming.  We are sheltering in place like most of the country.  I did do better this time though - I bought fabric for specific projects😁. Both fabrics are knits - 1 is called Modal and I don't know the name of the other but it is a buttery soft knit. This was an easy sew - 4 pieces.  Below are some construction pictures.  I ended up changing the top stitching around the collar to a zig zag on the second t-shirt - it looks better imho than the straight stitching. Conclusion This was a quick easy sew.  I made a size 9 based on the finis

Retirement Gifts

I am several projects behind in my postings.  This was the last one I completed for February.  I still have 2 others that were completed earlier in February that I still have to post. The embroidery designs came from Bunnycup's " Retirement Sentiments " and the apron came from Sew4Home's Overall Apron . Here are the pictures.  Since there are detailed instructions on the Sew4Home site I did not include my construction steps.  I did forget to take pictures of the back of the apron.  The sweatshirt was purchase and I just added embroidery to it. I had a different bottom half for the apron but realized it was much too lite for the heavy denim bib part so I changed it.  Had I known that beforehand, embroidery on the bib would have been in green. Purchased Sweatshirt with Added Embroidery Overall Apron
