Blouse - Lekala 4674

Image
I love this blouse -  I love the look and wear of it and it was so easy to sew.  I made it several weeks ago and was hesitant about posting it.  Why?  I really messed this one up.  I forgot about a key adjustment I needed to make.  It had nothing to do with the pattern - it was all me . I did press this blouse but it really wrinkled up when putting it on the dress form. My Version of Lekala 4674 Lekala 4674 How I Did It I bought a cotton print from my local fabric store and do love the print.  The pattern actually runs horizontally so I chose to cut it on the crosswise grain rather than the normal lengthwise grain.  I am wide enough and don't need a print to accentuate it. One of my first and major mistakes was not making my usual 1" sway back adjustment.  I was so eager and excited to get started on this top I just simply forgot.  I just recently started making this adjustment and understand the difference it make...

I Took The Plunge - I Hand Painted My Skirt

Image
I cut this skirt out and put the outlines of the geranium flowers on it at least 2 months ago but then I got scared that I had put too many of the flowers on the front and that I would mess it up with the painting since I am not an artist so I worked on other projects. This was supposed to be a summer skirt that I would enjoy wearing throughout the summer.  I finally couldn't put it off any longer so I took the plunge. Hand Painted Lekala S3023 How I Did It Picture Note - not sure what has happened but I have a black/brown short line mark in some of my photos. I had originally bought this fabric (Crossroads Denim) with the intention of making a jacket and then decided to use it for this skirt. I found the picture of the geranium in one of my many sewing books that I have acquired over the years.  I printed the flower on paper and used a  Sulky's Iron On Transfer Pen  to trace around the flower and then repeatedly ironed the flower on to the front panel...

Their Favorite Love Story

Image
August 27, 2017 was my pastor and wife's church anniversary.  Normally I make them a goodie basket filled with a variety of home baked sweet treats to take with them when they travel after their anniversary celebration. This year was no different - I did make them a goodie basket but I wanted to do something more.  I didn't have any ideas until Saturday afternoon and I had to have it done by Sunday morning.  Needless to say I had only a couple hours sleep. Embroidered Napkin How I Did It The colors for the occasion were red, black, and white.  I remembered seeing a wedding design set on  Bunnycup Embroidery  and thought this was perfect even though they have been married about 30 years and it was not their wedding anniversary. If you spent anytime around them you would see they really love each other.  I decided I would make them a goodie basket, a mug rug, and a napkin.  Since they would have snacks I bought red and black mugs for ...

Mug Rug - Scrap Buster

Image
I love other people's creativity because I get to copy it and make it my own.   After I learned the difference between quilt cotton and good quality quilt cotton I have been buying good quality quilt cotton.  I have a couple of local quilt shops that carry really good fabric (not all quilt stores are created equal). You typically pay more for quality fabric so I don't throw scraps away unless they are teeny tiny pieces.   As you can imagine I have collected quite the stash of scraps.  Thank you "the crafty quilter" for giving me a project that helps me to use up my scraps. The month has been super busy for me and I haven't had time to devote to sewing so I have been having sewing withdrawal pains.  I started these mug rugs sometime ago and since I had limited sewing time I decided to finish them. Mug Rug How I Did It I got this project from  the crafty quilter .  The link takes you the Orange Peel Mug Rug project which has the instructio...
