Compose Robe by Love Notions

I was talking to a friend who mentioned she washed a robe and she complained how ratty it looked after washing and that's when I had a light bulb moment.  She has a birthday this month and I finally had something I could make her as a gift without knowing her precise measurements.

I love, love, love making gifts for friends and family.  I like to think about our conversation(s) to come up with something they actually want and something that I can actually make in a reasonable amount of time.

If I could have remotely fit it, she would have never received it as a gift 😉.  Unfortunately I don't have pictures of her in it and the robe is way too small for my dress form, but I took the best pictures I could.

Compose Robe

I initially chose a beautiful white fabric with daisies on them, but it was see thru and I wasn't interested in making lingerie for this gift.  I went to the store to buy some fabric, but ended up forcing myself to use my stash.  I had no intention of using this fabric, but ultimately I let my selfishness go.  The pattern calls for a knit but did say you could use a woven.

This project was more significant because this was the first time I used my projector for a pattern.  I chose this pattern because I knew I was not going to make any adjustments.

How I Did It

  • Fabric

    • I bought this African Wax from Vlisco some years ago.  It cost a mint and it was extremely expensive to ship.  I had already used half of it for another project and was saving it for something else "special".  Using it for a gift for someone else was not the "special" I had in mind 😀.

  • Pattern Adjustments

    •  None

  • Some Construction Pictures

    •

      Correct orientation of the pockets

Had to redo pockets - I sewed the wrong edges

  • Some Finished Pictures

Conclusion

I really enjoyed making this robe.  It was stress free and easy to put together.  I noticed some of the patterns matched up but I wasn't trying to do that - it just happened in some places.

I want to make one for myself in a woven to wear as a cardigan.  Now I just need to find the right fabric - which I am sure I have in my stash.

This was the first time I used pattern projection and I forgot to mark the placement of the pockets, so I just "winged" it.

What's Next

I will also be making her a garden apron and afterwards I may go back to another UFO.
