Grainline Studio Myra Slipdress & Tank

Another UFO completed - yea.  I am endeavoring to work through my UFO projects alternating them with new projects.

Grainline Studio Myra Slipdress & Tank - View C

I made view C.  I struggled with this dress - I fought with the dart placement.  Not sure why that was a struggle at the time - it is quite easy to lower the dart.  My dart placement is off on this dress but the fabric design hides it really well.  The bumps in some of the pictures are a result of me having on the wrong bra with the straps tucked in the side.

How I Did It

I was a tester for this pattern and something happened where I wasn't able to get access to some files and I ended up dropping out of the testing.  I first made a muslin and that is when I realized the dart was too high.

Because I was so frustrated with the dart, I wanted to throw the dress away, but I loved the fabric way too much.  Instead I balled it up and threw it in a bag and there it stayed for 2 years.  To my pleasant surprise I only needed to do under stitching at the top to finish my dress.

  • Fabric

    • I had this fabric in my stash and it was a fairly recent purchase at the time.  It is a rayon called Australian Aboriginal Fabric Onion Dreaming in forest green.  This fabric is super soft and feels amazing next to the skin.  I got it here.

  • Pattern Adjustments

    • I don't remember all the adjustments I made so I listed the ones I could remember
    • I cut a size 20 at the neck and graded out to a 24 at the hip
    • I shortened the straps 3 7/8"
    • I am sure I shortened the length 3"

  • Some Construction Pictures

  • Some Finished Pictures

Conclusion

This dress is super comfortable and I remember it being an easy sew (not counting the darts).  I love the side slits and the design at the top.  I can't wait to wear it.

There is one thing I don't like.  There is a deep "V" on each side and I don't know of any bra that I could wear without the sides of my bra being exposed.

Initially I thought I would never make this dress again because of this but this dress can be easily fixed by wearing a tank top under it.

At some point in this life I may try to raise the "V".  Overall I do love this dress.

What's Next

Will be working on a t-shirt from StyleArc patterns.

  1. Congratulations on completing a UFO. I hope I will do that someday, too! I hope that you DO put a tank top under this (green?), or a special bra, or even nothing, and wear it a lot until you are completely comfortable with wearing it, because it is a great dress and you finished it!
