Won't do my normal post because I am so far behind on my postings.  I still have items I have made in 2025 that I have not posted.

Shiloh Crossbody, Sling, Hip Bag

I had a birthday party to attend and needed a gift for the birthday girl.  Didn't know what I would make and as usual waited until the 99th hour to decide.  I am determined this year to use what's in my stash.

Pattern Used

I joined Bag of the Month Club and totally forgot until I got a new email with February's bag.  I took a look at January's bag and figured it would be simpler and quicker to sew.  January's bag was Shiloh.

Materials Used

The materials suggested did not include cork, but I chose to use it for the exterior since I had it on hand.  Cork and shoulder strap came from Sallie Tomato.  Zippers and zipper pulls came from Zipper Valley  The interior is a quilting cotton that I applied wax (Greenland Wax) to so that it would be water/stain repellant.

Changes

I used fusible hair canvas to stabilize the cork and Pellon stabilizer 101 (I believe) to stabilize the cotton.  Doing this made the cork less pliable and hard to bend and sew.  Subsequently I had to had sew the bias tape by hand (sore hands and bloody fingers 😂).  I also applied wax to the bias tape.  I sewed it with matching embroidery floss.



I got a mysterious hole in the pocket lining and didn't figure out how it happened until I was trying to sew on the bias tape (by machine initially).  I saw the top of the pocket hang up on the thread cutter then cut into it.  I almost gave up, but decide to delay giving the gift, take a break, and patch the holes later.  

To fix I used Heat Bond and then hand sewed around the patch.  The Heat Bond didn't seem to stick as well so I assumed it was because of the wax applied to the quilting cotton.

My Girly Girly Outfit - StyleArc's Monroe Woven Top and Genoa Bias Cut Skirt

I had a high school reunion to go to and knew I wanted to make something but waited until the 99th hour before I chose a pattern. Leave it to me to take something so simple and make it extra hard and long.  I also forgot I had signed up for a pattern test that was due at the same time (I was so stressed).   Because I was in a rush it took forever to make and I was still sewing a few hours before it was time for me to leave. Sigrid Knit Coat by StyleArc

Another UFO completed 😄.  I started this one July 2024 and was forced to complete February 2025.  My niece is a huge Chiefs fan and she wanted something with the Chiefs logo embroidered on it.  She gave me an idea of what she wanted, I chose some patterns for her to review, and this is the one she chose. How I Did It This pattern was quite easy but I just lost my sewjo after starting it.   After she selected the pattern, I search some online fabric shops for fabric.  I ended up ordering from  Marcy Tilton  because she had a sale going on at the time. In Living Color - Love Notions Bridget Trousers

Oh my - when I signed up for this pattern test I did not realize it was due the same day as the start of my high school class reunion for which I knew I would make an outfit.  I was so stressed out and sleep deprived and that translates into mistakes. On any pants pattern, I always have to raise my back rise 1" and when I am rushing and not paying attention, I will make the disastrous mistake of making the change on the outside (thigh area) rather than the inside crotch curve.  How about I did this on the first 3 pairs and couldn't figure out why my back leg kept being longer than the front leg (the tell tell sign that I have made this mistake) because I was so exhausted.  It finally hit me when I was stitching up the 3rd pair 😄. Stylearc's Eme Dress

 I bought this pattern when Stylearc had a sale.  What drew me to it was it's simple silhouette and the cocoon hemline.  You can dress the dress up or down and it looks good either way and it has pockets. How I Did It Look at the finished measurements for this dress, not your size.  This dress has a lot of ease and runs large.  I went one size down from my typical size and really could have gone down one size more possibly and still been fine. Fabric I ordered fabric for this make - surprise surprise.  I selected the Mod Spot Linen Shirting Print in Natural and Paprika  from Style Maker Fabrics. Pattern Alterations I would normally cut a 22 but based on the finished measurements I chose a 20. I struggled with that decision so much so that I added 1" to the hip area even though the finished measurements had more than enough room.  Big mistake and I had to remove it.  I continue to battle with loose and just too dang big. Seamworks Benning Dress

This was a UFO I started a few months ago.  It became a UFO because of the low cut "V" neckline - I definitely should have done a muslin for this one. Rayon Challis Seersucker I was so frustrated that I wanted to throw it away, however, I loved the version 1 fabric way too much, so I put it away.  The weather got extremely hot a couple of weeks back and I decided to pull it out again.  I finished the dress before I knew what I would do with the front.  I ended up adding a triangle piece in the front for modesty. Another UFO completed - yea.  I am endeavoring to work through my UFO projects alternating them with new projects. Grainline Studio Myra Slipdress & Tank - View C I made view C.  I struggled with this dress - I fought with the dart placement.  Not sure why that was a struggle at the time - it is quite easy to lower the dart.  My dart placement is off on this dress but the fabric design hides it really well.  The bumps in some of the pictures are a result of me having on the wrong bra with the straps tucked in the side. How I Did It I was a tester for this pattern and something happened where I wasn't able to get access to some files and I ended up dropping out of the testing.  I first made a muslin and that is when I realized the dart was too high.   Because I was so frustrated with the dart, I wanted to throw the dress away, but I loved the fabric way too much.  Instead I balled it up and threw it in a bag and there it stayed for 2 years...

Another UFO completed 😁.  I started this pattern February 2021 and got everything completed except for adding the buttons and buttonholes.  Throughout the construction process I constantly checked the fit of the front and back.   I tried them on one final time to see where I needed to place the button and it was then for the first time I turned to the side and wanted to cry.  There was an enormous amount of gapping.  I liked them too much to throw away or give away but I knew I would not wear them, so I put them away. Fast forward to today and me losing my sewjo.  I haven't really felt like sewing for months and I have had to force myself to sew.  I decided that I would work on UFO's in a hope to get my sewjo to return.  I pulled out this pattern and made the necessary fix to make them wearable. StyleArc's Tommie Jeans Skirt Is Singing My Love Language Today

When this pattern came out I knew I wanted to make it and bought it immediately.  Well it's been a few months since I purchased and I am so glad I finally got a chance to sew it up.  I like it even more than I thought I would. Amanda Stretch Short by StyleArc

I really, really, really love this short pattern.  They are comfy, stylish, the perfect length, and easy to sew.  I believe I got this pattern during one of the StyleArc sales. Amanda Stretch Short How I Did It This was an easy sew for me and I enjoyed the process!  A girlfriend ordered this pattern, made them, and said they looked like gaucho's on her.  When I viewed the pattern I liked it and decided to try them for myself.  When I showed her mine she figured she had probably cut the pattern to big for her size 😊.  I used either a 12wt or 30wt cotton thread for topstitching - BIG mistake.  With stretch fabrics your told to use the wobble or lightning bolt stitch to keep your thread from breaking when the fabric is stretched.  I hate those stitches because if you have to remove the stitches they are a nightmare to get out.  Should have used it this time - just putting them on causes stitches to "pop".
