Seamwork The Joss Pants

I am tickled pink that the pattern adjustments I did do were all done digitally in Inkscape.  Then I used my projector to project the pattern directly onto my fabric 😁.  I learned how to make digital pattern adjustments via the Master Inkscape for Sewing course by Projector Sewing and would highly recommend it.  She also has one for Affinity (haven't used this one).  I don't get a commission or anything else for these recommendations.  This was a free pattern.

Now for the disappointment that I created. I really messed up on this one because I didn't do a muslin and I used my good fabric 😂.  I now understand Seamwork patterns require more fit adjustments for my body than other patterns I use.    If I want to continue using them, a muslin will not be optional - it will be a necessity for Seamwork patterns.

The Joss Pants



To get them to look half way decent, I had to pull them all the way up right under my bra to compensate for the ridiculously long crotch length.  This pattern was designed for someone who is 5' 8" but I am only 5' 3".  I didn't help that I had on the wrong bra (too big and no lift), the wrong panties (PIB - panties in butt) and that I had hanger pinches in the hem 😂.

How I Did It

  • Fabric

    • A 6 oz Morning Rose Lyocell Twill from Lyrical Fabrics.  The pattern calls for a medium weight fabric, however, I love my fabric choice even though it is on the lighter side.  It is soft and flowy.

  • Pattern Adjustments

    • I went down a size (to a 20) based on the finished measurements
    • All pattern adjustments were done digitally via Inkscape 
    • I raised the rise 1"
    • I shortened the pockets 2"
    • I shortened the pants length 3".  Based on my height I should have shortened them 5", however, my round tummy takes up the excess.

Conclusion

These pants are too big because of the crotch length, but for the crotch length I would love love love them.  I will still wear them even though they are too big because I used my good fabric 😂.  One day I suspect I will eventually part with them.

Normally I would toss this pattern, but I won't this time because I want to continue practicing pattern adjustments in the Inkscape software.  I plan to still shorten the length by 3", however,  I will take 2" from the crotch length and 1" from the pant length.  I will keep the other adjustments.  I will definitely do a muslin this time.

If after these new adjustments the pattern doesn't fit me like I want, I will toss this pattern because it's not worth my time.  I will use the patterns I have that start with a better fit and adjust those.

Again, but for the long crotch length these pants would be perfect.  I love how loose and comfortable they are.

I had a high school reunion to go to and knew I wanted to make something but waited until the 99th hour before I chose a pattern. StyleArc's Loddon Woven Pant - Sheer Comfort

One word says it all - comfortable.  When this pattern came out a few months back, I loved it but wasn't sure if I would like the pants on me.  I am so glad I went with my first reaction because I love them on me.  If you are on the fence about this pattern - don't be - you will look great in them just like me 😁. Another UFO completed 😄.  I started this one July 2024 and was forced to complete February 2025.  My niece is a huge Chiefs fan and she wanted something with the Chiefs logo embroidered on it.  She gave me an idea of what she wanted, I chose some patterns for her to review, and this is the one she chose. How I Did It This pattern was quite easy but I just lost my sewjo after starting it.   After she selected the pattern, I search some online fabric shops for fabric.  I ended up ordering from  Marcy Tilton  because she had a sale going on at the time. In Living Color - Love Notions Bridget Trousers

Oh my - when I signed up for this pattern test I did not realize it was due the same day as the start of my high school class reunion for which I knew I would make an outfit.  I was so stressed out and sleep deprived and that translates into mistakes. On any pants pattern, I always have to raise my back rise 1" and when I am rushing and not paying attention, I will make the disastrous mistake of making the change on the outside (thigh area) rather than the inside crotch curve.  How about I did this on the first 3 pairs and couldn't figure out why my back leg kept being longer than the front leg (the tell tell sign that I have made this mistake) because I was so exhausted.  It finally hit me when I was stitching up the 3rd pair 😄. Seamworks Benning Dress

This was a UFO I started a few months ago.  It became a UFO because of the low cut "V" neckline - I definitely should have done a muslin for this one. Rayon Challis Seersucker I was so frustrated that I wanted to throw it away, however, I loved the version 1 fabric way too much, so I put it away.  The weather got extremely hot a couple of weeks back and I decided to pull it out again.  I finished the dress before I knew what I would do with the front.  I ended up adding a triangle piece in the front for modesty. Stylearc's Eme Dress

 I bought this pattern when Stylearc had a sale.  What drew me to it was it's simple silhouette and the cocoon hemline.  You can dress the dress up or down and it looks good either way and it has pockets. How I Did It Look at the finished measurements for this dress, not your size.  This dress has a lot of ease and runs large.  I went one size down from my typical size and really could have gone down one size more possibly and still been fine. Fabric I ordered fabric for this make - surprise surprise.  I selected the Mod Spot Linen Shirting Print in Natural and Paprika  from Style Maker Fabrics. Pattern Alterations I would normally cut a 22 but based on the finished measurements I chose a 20. StyleArc's Mary-Ann Skirt

 OMG - only I can take a simple pattern that should take 2 hours tops and turn it into an all day sewing session - it was the simple, easy to install pockets that did me in 😂. I saw this skirt sewn up at my local fabric store and knew I wanted to make it.   Mary-Ann Skirt I won't do the traditional post because I have lost information about changes.  I normally write my modifications on the printed instructions but I don't know where I put them. StyleArc's Tommie Jeans Skirt Is Singing My Love Language Today

When this pattern came out I knew I wanted to make it and bought it immediately.  Well it's been a few months since I purchased and I am so glad I finally got a chance to sew it up.  I like it even more than I thought I would. My 2019 sewing goal was to make a good fitting pair of jeans.  It has been a two year journey and I have found at least one pattern that works for me. A Beautiful Piece of Art Just for Me

It was a frustrating sewing day - I broke another machine.  In the last month I have broke 3 machines.  My beloved Babylock Evolve is now in the shop - I did not know that I had stripped the screw that holds one of the needles until I tried to change it and could not get the needle out.  It got worse from there but I won't relive it. In my last post I made a skirt for a young lady that I am teaching to sew.  I was a pattern tester for the Flora Skirt  by Daniela of   On The Cutting Floor .  Initially I did not make the skirt for me because I didn't think I liked it for me but after making it for her I knew I had to have one for me.
