ThanksIMadeThem Metro Moves Clutch

I was chosen as a tester for this pattern.  I love signing up to be a tester until it is time to sew the pattern, then I stress myself so bad because I don't want to do a horrible job with the pattern πŸ˜….  Here is my version.

Metro Moves Clutch

The pattern designer describes it this way.

A lined quilted bag with bias bound external seams.  This versatile bag functions as a clutch, shoulder bag, crossbody bag, and belt bag with the adjustment or removal of the straps.

I did see the pattern designer post on Instagram where she showed all that you could store in it.- blew me away.  The pattern is a pretty quick sew, except the binding was tough trying to get through those tight spaces  However, the final version of the pattern has an increased side size to hopefully make putting on the binding a bit easier.  The final version also includes an inside pocket - the version I made does not feature these 2 changes.

The first version I made, I liked the color better (same fabric different colorway) and I did a lot more decorative stitching on the fabric.  I am not sure what I did wrong but the bag was lopsided πŸ˜€and no way was I going to present that.  On the second version I did not have the energy to as much stitching and I spaced the stitches farther apart.

How I Did It

All of the materials came from my stash - yay.  I did want a different color webbing for the strap and handle because I wanted to use a different lining fabric, but I could not find the color I wanted at a local store in a cotton webbing.

I used headliner for the inside stabilizer because I have plenty of that on hand and it is cheaper than soft and stable/bosal stabilizer.

  • Fabric

    • I used a plain cotton canvas, Sulky 30wt Cotton Blendables, and decorative stitches in my machine to decorate my outer fabric.  Both the canvas and cotton lining came from Hobby Lobby.  This is what I started with.

      • Original Colorway
This is what I ended up with.

First Version

    • I don't remember where the webbing came from but it was plain as well and I added decorative stitching down the middle.
  • Pattern Adjustments

    • None

  • Some Construction Pictures

  • Some Finished Pictures

Conclusion

I actually made 2 bags - the first one ended up being lopsided and the second turned out perfect.  I salvaged what could from the first bag and made the second.  The construction pictures are of the original and the finished pictures are of the completed bag in a different colorway.

The bag was a fairly easy to sew and did not take too much time.  The only trouble was the tight spaces and the binding.

I like to think of the this bag as a date night bag or the "essentials" bag, although you can pack a lot into it.  This bag has already been claimed and given to a friend, so I will be making another for myself and hope it doesn't get claimed by someone also πŸ˜€.

What's Next

My last post was in February 2024 after which I lost my sewjo.  I still haven't found it but I have been forcing myself to sew.  I was hoping my sewjo would return after this project (finished in mid May), but it didn't.

I kept creating UFO's and finally couldn't take it anymore and lowered my standard just so I could finish something. I have been forcing myself to complete things.  I just finish a blouse and pants and that will be posted next.
