This Fitzroy Hoodie Is Absolute Comfort

As of late, I am only wanting to sew things that are roomy, comfortable, and easy to sew, so now when I buy new patterns that is what I am searching for.  These days I need quick sewing success to keep me motivated to sew.

I bought this pattern in May 2019.  I knew I loved it but the right fabric didn't speak to me until March 2020.

How I Did It

In the middle of March 2020 based on what I was hearing and seeing I knew the city was going to be shut down sometime soon.  I went to JoAnn's Fabric store as a last ditch effort to ensure I had fabric to sew,  I wasn't hopeful because for the last few years their garment fabric quality had gone down hill and I felt forced to do my fabric shopping online.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this bright yellow modal knit fabric - it reminded me of the high end knit fabric I have seen in retail high end brands. The yellow reminded me of the sunshine and that made me happy.  I knew this was the perfect fabric for the Fitzroy Hoodie.

I believe I spent about $200 - $300 dollars in 2 days on fabric because I needed to ensure I had something to keep my sanity during what was sure to be a long difficult time period.

I had a fabric stash, but of course none of that fabric would work for want I was wanting to sew.

My Adjustments

I shortened the sleeves 2" but should have shortened them another 2" because the sleeves are really long on me.

I shortened the bodice only 1".  I normally automatically shorten the length 3", but not on this one.  I believe I held the pattern piece up to my body to see where the waistband hit and determined I only needed to shorten it 1"

I shortened the hood by 1" also.

Conclusion

I really love this no-fuse hoodie, you slip it over your head and your on your way.

I imagine myself lounging around in this hoodie and leggings on a cold, rainy day.  Or going out and pairing this hoodie and leggings with a wedge heel sandal and jewelry to match to dress it up a bit.

The instructions are sparse as with most of their patterns, but with the pictures it makes it easy to whip this up.

StyleArc's Loddon Woven Pant - Sheer Comfort

One word says it all - comfortable.  When this pattern came out a few months back, I loved it but wasn't sure if I would like the pants on me.  I am so glad I went with my first reaction because I love them on me.  If you are on the fence about this pattern - don't be - you will look great in them just like me 😁. In Living Color - Love Notions Bridget Trousers

Oh my - when I signed up for this pattern test I did not realize it was due the same day as the start of my high school class reunion for which I knew I would make an outfit.  I was so stressed out and sleep deprived and that translates into mistakes. On any pants pattern, I always have to raise my back rise 1" and when I am rushing and not paying attention, I will make the disastrous mistake of making the change on the outside (thigh area) rather than the inside crotch curve.  How about I did this on the first 3 pairs and couldn't figure out why my back leg kept being longer than the front leg (the tell tell sign that I have made this mistake) because I was so exhausted.  It finally hit me when I was stitching up the 3rd pair 😄. Another UFO completed 😄.  I started this one July 2024 and was forced to complete February 2025.  My niece is a huge Chiefs fan and she wanted something with the Chiefs logo embroidered on it.  She gave me an idea of what she wanted, I chose some patterns for her to review, and this is the one she chose. How I Did It This pattern was quite easy but I just lost my sewjo after starting it.   After she selected the pattern, I search some online fabric shops for fabric.  I ended up ordering from  Marcy Tilton  because she had a sale going on at the time. Seamworks Benning Dress

This was a UFO I started a few months ago.  It became a UFO because of the low cut "V" neckline - I definitely should have done a muslin for this one. Rayon Challis Seersucker I was so frustrated that I wanted to throw it away, however, I loved the version 1 fabric way too much, so I put it away.  The weather got extremely hot a couple of weeks back and I decided to pull it out again.  I finished the dress before I knew what I would do with the front.  I ended up adding a triangle piece in the front for modesty. Stylearc's Eme Dress

 I bought this pattern when Stylearc had a sale.  What drew me to it was it's simple silhouette and the cocoon hemline.  You can dress the dress up or down and it looks good either way and it has pockets. How I Did It Look at the finished measurements for this dress, not your size.  This dress has a lot of ease and runs large.  I went one size down from my typical size and really could have gone down one size more possibly and still been fine. Fabric I ordered fabric for this make - surprise surprise.  I selected the Mod Spot Linen Shirting Print in Natural and Paprika  from Style Maker Fabrics. Pattern Alterations I would normally cut a 22 but based on the finished measurements I chose a 20. I struggled with that decision so much so that I added 1" to the hip area even though the finished measurements had more than enough room.  Big mistake and I had to remove it.  I continue to battle with loose and just too dang big. StyleArc's Mary-Ann Skirt

 OMG - only I can take a simple pattern that should take 2 hours tops and turn it into an all day sewing session - it was the simple, easy to install pockets that did me in 😂. I saw this skirt sewn up at my local fabric store and knew I wanted to make it.   Mary-Ann Skirt I won't do the traditional post because I have lost information about changes.  I normally write my modifications on the printed instructions but I don't know where I put them. StyleArc's Tommie Jeans Skirt Is Singing My Love Language Today

When this pattern came out I knew I wanted to make it and bought it immediately.  Well it's been a few months since I purchased and I am so glad I finally got a chance to sew it up.  I like it even more than I thought I would. A Beautiful Piece of Art Just for Me

It was a frustrating sewing day - I broke another machine.  In the last month I have broke 3 machines.  My beloved Babylock Evolve is now in the shop - I did not know that I had stripped the screw that holds one of the needles until I tried to change it and could not get the needle out.  It got worse from there but I won't relive it. In my last post I made a skirt for a young lady that I am teaching to sew.  I was a pattern tester for the Flora Skirt  by Daniela of   On The Cutting Floor .  Initially I did not make the skirt for me because I didn't think I liked it for me but after making it for her I knew I had to have one for me. My 2019 sewing goal was to make a good fitting pair of jeans.  It has been a two year journey and I have found at least one pattern that works for me.
